Former pitcher Vazquez hired by baseball union

NEW YORK (AP) Former pitcher Javier Vazquez has been hired as international special assistant to baseball players' union head Tony Clark.

The 37-year-old Vazquez, who played from 1998-2011, is a former player representative and member of the union's bargaining team, He lives in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he was born and raised.

His hiring was announced Wednesday.
