Edwin Jackson signs 1-year deal with Miami Marlins

MIAMI (AP) The Miami Marlins added pitching depth Wednesday, signing right-hander Edwin Jackson to a one-year deal.

Jackson made 47 relief appearances for the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta last season. The Marlins become his 10th franchise, after past stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay, Detroit, Arizona, the Chicago White Sox, St. Louis, Washington, the Cubs and the Braves.

He's made 340 career appearances, 262 of them starts, with 88-107 record and 4.58 ERA.

The Marlins also completed the signing of infielder Chris Johnson, also to a one-year deal. Johnson, a career .280 hitter in seven seasons, was with the Braves and Cleveland last year and batted .255 in 83 games.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Marlins designated infielder Tommy Medica and right-hander Andre Rienzo for assignment.
