Dodgers SS Ramirez to DL with oblique strain, Barney called up

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:16 p.m. ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed shortstop Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right rib cage muscle.

Ramirez felt tightness in his right side before Friday night's game, the start of a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers. He walked in the first inning of that game before being removed in the bottom of the inning.

Ramirez had an MRI on Saturday to determine the severity of the oblique injury. He is hitting .277 with 12 homers and 58 RBI in 100 games.

Infielder Darwin Barney, who was acquired on July 28 from the Chicago Cubs, was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Ramirez's roster spot. Miguel Rojas started at shortstop on Sunday with Los Angeles trying to avoid a three-game sweep at Milwaukee.
