Detroit Tigers players will look to bounce back on Saturday on the road against Cleveland. The Tigers dropped the first game in the series, but have Justin Verlander on the mound for the second game.

Detroit Tigers fans didn’t see the best baseball on Friday, as Cleveland beat Brad Ausmus and company by a final score of 11-4.

Two monster home runs by Justin Upton couldn’t propel the team to victory, as Detroit fell on the road. However, the Tigers will go for a win on Saturday as Justin Verlander takes the hill.

Verlander, who has allowed 21 hits and 17 runs in 16.2 innings against Cleveland this season, will look to continue his run of form. The longtime Detroit ace owns a 2.27 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 14 starts since last facing Saturday’s opponents.

Detroit’s offense will certainly have a chance to rebound after struggling on Friday.

Carlos Carrasco will start for Cleveland.

While Carrasco’s ERA is a solid 3.32 on the season, the veteran starter has allowed 43 runs in his last 76.1 innings pitched against the Tigers. What’s more, the former Phillies farmhand’s ERA in his last nine starts is 4.77. Over that span, the right-hander has allowed 65 hits and 35 runs in 54.2 innings pitched.

A number of prominent Detroit hitters, such as Miguel Cabrera (.323), J.D. Martinez (.368) and Jose Iglesias (.308) have thrived against Carrasco in their respective careers.

Potential Batting Order

Because of this, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Iglesias hit second. The shortstop was left on the bench in favor of Erick Aybar on Friday, but could find success on Saturday.

Hitting the former Red Sox player second would also allow Cameron Maybin to move down in the order. Maybin has been excellent when hitting first (.314) and second (.293) this season, but he’s been even better hitting seventh.

In 14 games hitting out of the seventh spot in the order, the center fielder is hitting .422 with a .991 OPS. He’s also added six RBI, six runs scored, five walks, four stolen bases, a home run and a double in just 45 at-bats.
