David Ortiz teared up as his daughter performed the national anthem

The Red Sox said they had a special surprise in store for David Ortiz's final home opener at Fenway Monday, and that surprise reduced Big Papi to tears. Ortiz's 15-year-old daughter, Alexandra Ortiz, sang the national anthem for the sellout crowd Monday afternoon, and a shocked Big Papi looked every bit the proud papa as Alex impressed the Fenway faithful with her vocal ability.

Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said later on in the Red Sox broadcast that Ortiz had no idea his daughter was going to sing the national anthem Monday.

The proud father was able to wipe away his tears in time to participate in a memorable first pitch ceremony with fellow Boston sports heroes Bobby Orr, Bill Russell and Ty Law. Ortiz also joined former teammates Jason Varitek, Pedro Martinez and Tim Wakefield for the first "play ball" utterance of the season.

But of all the meaningful moments that are likely in store for Ortiz this year, it will probably be hard for anything to live up to the chance to watch his daughter sing the national anthem at Fenway's home opener.
