David Ortiz singles up the middle, breaks bat anyways

Published Jul. 6, 2016 7:33 a.m. ET

David Ortiz's leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth seemed like a good way to rally after the Texas Rangers scored four in the top of the ninth to take a 7-2 lead over the Boston Red Sox.

Ortiz must have had his mind set on more, because on the way to first base he snapped his bat like a twig.

The Red Sox left 14 men on base in the 7-2 loss, so perhaps Ortiz was just blowing off some steam over all those ducks left on the pond.

Rest in peace, bat. Rare is the piece of lumber that gets intentionally snapped by its batsman after helping to secure a hit.
