D-backs' Peter O'Brien reportedly transitioning from catcher to outfielder
The Diamondbacks’ Peter O’Brien will reportedly no longer be a catcher, and is instead transitioning to be an outfielder. O’Brien had been one of the D-backs’ catching options during spring training, but concern about his defensive abilities behind the plate led the team explore the outfield as an option for the power-hitting right-hander.
He had primarily been playing left and right field in April for Triple-A Reno this season, but had started catching again during May. D-backs manager Chip Hale had been questioned last week about the possibility of using O’Brien as a replacement for recently-injured catcher Tuffy Gosewisch. Per The Arizona Republic, Hale had said, "He's just started to catch again and we want to see him catch a bunch and get comfortable doing it.”
O’Brien is hitting a robust .339 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs in Reno.
Had heard that things were going well behind the plate for #Dbacks Peter O'Brien, but he has apparently made full-time switch to outfield.

Have not heard if #Dbacks Peter O'Brien is making the move at his request, the organization's, or a little of both.
