D-backs' 2015 Draft picks almost exclusively college players

After selecting prep players with their first five picks last year, the Arizona Diamondbacks did a reversal this year. The D-backs selected almost exclusively college players in the 2015 MLB Draft -- 36 of their 40 picks. MLB.com quotes D-backs scouting director Deric Ladnier:

"We had some young guys drafted last year that some of them weren't ready to make the leap to full season and Double-A," Ladnier said. "And what we're hoping is that this can allow those guys the opportunity to develop at the proper rate.”

The highlight of the 36 collegiate players would be the team’s first round and No. 1 overall pick, Dansby Swanson out of Vanderbilt. Other notable college selections were left-handed pitcher Alex Young (second round) of TCU and right-handed pitcher Taylor Clarke (round 3) from the College of Charleston.
