Crisp takes BP on field with A's, rehab stint may be on horizon
2015 has been a rough year for Coco Crisp, as the Oakland Athletics' outfielder has been sidelined for much of the season with a handful of injuries, including a cervical strain in his neck and right elbow surgery.
The nicks and bruises have limited him to just 13 games with Oakland, and though his absence opened the proverbial door for high-energy rookie Billy Burns to be given an opportunity, the A's would love to have Crisp back in the mix.
They very well might soon, as Crisp took normal batting practice with the club on the field prior to their game with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.
Though a rehab stint could be in the future, manager Bob Melvin told Matt Kawahara of the Sacramento Bee on Tuesday that the A's aren't really in a rush: "We’re not really sure until he starts doing everything on the field, whether it’s the running portion, the fielding, certainly seeing how he responds to hitting from both sides of the plate. Then we’ll have a better understanding (of a timetable). But we should know a lot more by the end of this homestand.”
Considering all he's been through in 2015, seeing Crisp able to take normal batting practice without any reported issues is a great development for the club.
