Cincinnati Reds Rumors - Brandon Phillips open to being traded to SoCal

The Cincinnati Reds may have finally found a pair of team that Brandon Phillips is willing to be traded to this off-season.

The Cincinnati Reds have been trying to trade Brandon Phillips for two off-seasons, but they might have finally found a pair of acceptable partners.  According to unnamed sources, Phillips has informed the Reds of a pair of teams that he would consider waiving his no trade clause for – the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels.  Apparently, SoCal is calling to Phillips.

The Dodgers make sense for Phillips.  They traded the man many thought to be their starting second baseman next year, Howie Kendrick.  Their third baseman, Justin Turner, and last year’s starter, Chase Utley, are both free agents.

That would be an ideal situation for Phillips.  He would be paired up with the young superstar shortstop Corey Seager.  Phillips could be a leader on the infield with Adrian Gonzalez.

The Angels is a more interesting situation.  They have had troubles at second base for several years.  The Angels have already upgraded their left field by acquiring Cameron Maybin from the Detroit Tigers.  Joining a team with Mike Trout and Albert Pujols would feed Phillips’ ego.

Brandon Phillips can play almost anywhere he wants, but he has to let the Reds know before it is too late.

By every report Phillips wanted to go to the Washington Nationals last off-season.  He blocked the deal to Arizona so that the Nationals could acquire him.  Then he blocked that deal because he wanted more money.

Once he blocked the deal the Nationals moved on to Daniel Murphy.  Dusty Baker wanted to reunite with his former second baseman, but it didn’t happen.  Phillips got in his own way.

If Phillips really wants to go to SoCal, he needs to let the Reds know now.  If it is LA only, then they need to know that.  There are very few teams that wouldn’t add Phillips at the right price.

Phillips has had a good career.

He made his debut with the Cleveland Indians, but is often thought of as a lifetime Red.  Where he goes next could determine his Hall of Fame chances.

Whatever team he plays for in 2017, Phillips will be focusing on postseason success for the rest of his career.  His best chance is to get out of Cincinnati.  The Reds have options, but Phillips holds all of the cards.  It appears that Phillips wants to go somewhere with sunshine.  There’s no better place than SoCal for that.
