Castro, looking back on a tough few years, says he can finish strong
Starlin Castro has struggled through slumps before. He's endured an awful pain of friends and family killed in a car accident.
More mature, more confident, the Chicago Cubs shortstop says the prolonged slump he can't seem to snap will, eventually, come to an end.
“I know who I am. I know that’s not me,” Castro told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The 25-year-old has virtually been misfiring at the plate since May 1. The career .280 hitter has hit just .210 since then, and since his last homer way back on June 12, he has just three extra-base hits.
Castro told the Sun-Times that a slight flaw in his hitting mechanics, along with applying too much pressure on himself, have been at the heart of his struggles.
“I still have my confidence, I can still do something, I can still be better,” Castro told the Sun-Times. “If you looked at me last year and check me out right now and compare, it’s [no comparison]. My mind’s clean. I don’t have any family problems, anything. Just one click – one click and it will turn on. It’s like when you turn the light on or off. It’s not off. It’s right in the middle, almost on. That’s me right now.
“I can still finish strong.”
