Carl Crawford set to return to Dodgers on Monday
After a long stint on the disabled list, Carl Crawford is slated to make his awaited return to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Manager Don Mattingly said Sunday that Crawford, who has been rehabbing a right oblique injury with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate, will join the team in Atlanta on Monday for a three-game series against the Braves.
Crawford has missed nearly three months of action for the Dodgers after straining his oblique in late April.
Mattingly did not specify whether or not the veteran outfielder will be activated from the 60-day disabled list upon his arrival in Atlanta or later in the series.
With current left fielder Andre Ethier in the midst of a resurgence this season, Mattingly confirmed that Crawford will only play left field for the Dodgers.
"Definitely, I would use Carl to be able to give Yasiel some days off," Mattingly said, suggesting that Ethier would shift to right field if Crawford were to start.
In 15 games earlier in the season, Crawford hit .245/.260/.408 with one home run, three doubles, a triple, and three RBI.
