Cardinals OF Grichuk to take a few days off to rest tweaked groin
Hustling St. Louis outfielder Randal Grichuk, whose extra-base hitting prowess has earned him a staring job in the outfield, will sit out a second consecutive game Tuesday with a groin strain.
Grichuk felt a twinge while batting in the fifth inning of Sunday's game, and had to come out the next inning. He missed Monday's game, but is optimistic that he won't be out for long, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
“It’s better today,” Grichuk told the Post-Dispatch after having an MRI exam Monday. “It’s a little tight but it’s definitely not what it felt like yesterday. I was not that totally concerned but it was one of those where you feel it and don’t know how bad it could be.”
Grichuk is batting .281 with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. His 34 extra-base hits are second among rookies behind the Dodgers' Joc Pederson. Grichuk had started 30 of the previous 32 games before missing Monday's game.
