Cardinals in trade talks for Colorado outfielders

With the St. Louis Cardinals making a successful move this offseason with the signing of Mike Leake, things could be turning around for the Redbirds.

According to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi, the Cardinals are engaged in trade talks with the Colorado Rockies. Carlos Gonzalez, Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson all have been made available by the Rockies.

It is currently unknown what pieces the Cardinals would need to move to obtain any of the three Colorado outfielders, but any of the three available would be beneficial additions for St. Louis.

Gonzalez would be the flashiest pickup of the three as he smashed 40 home runs with the Rockies in 2015, winning a Silver Slugger award. He has benefited from playing a Coors Field, but overall has the power, especially against righties, to excel anywhere.

Blackmon could be the favorite target for Cardinals brass. A leadoff hitter with speed, power, and solid centerfield defense, Blackmon hit .287 with 17 home runs, 31 doubles, and nine triples along with 43 stolen bases in 2015.

Dickerson is the youngest of the three St. Louis targets at 26-years-old, but could develop to be a formable talent in the outfield. Three years in the majors, Dickerson overall has a .299 batting average and a .879 OPS for his career numbers.

No matter which direction the Cardinals go should they acquire one of the Rockies' outfielder, any would be an upgrade for the St. Louis lineup needing to add some power for 2016.
