Brewers 1, Angels 1(10)
Scott Kazmir pitched five sharp innings in his final Cactus League start, and the Los Angeles Angels and Milwaukee Brewers played to a 1-all tie in 10 innings Tuesday.
Kazmir allowed one run and four hits. The left-hander missed his previous start because of shoulder stiffness. He was held out as a precaution.
Kazmir was set to throw around 90 pitches in a camp game Sunday. If all goes well, he's expected to start the Angels' fifth game against Oakland on April 9.
``It was a big step today. I was getting to throw back-to-back sliders. I'm ready to go,'' he said.
Michael Ryan, who hasn't played in the majors since 2005 with Minnesota, tied it for the Angels with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. He appears to have a solid shot of making the big league roster.
Brewers starter Chris Narveson worked three scoreless innings, running his string to 12 consecutive scoreless innings.
Narveson, who is out of options, worked out of a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam in the third, striking out Bobby Abreu before getting Torii Hunter to bounce out on a third-to-home force play and striking out Hideki Matsui.
``He came back against those 2-3-4 guys and got right out of that jam,'' Brewers manager Ken Macha said.
Manny Parra, another left-handed starting candidate, followed Narveson and worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
``Parra was OK,'' Macha said. ``They hit a couple of balls hard off of him.''
NOTES: Angels manager Mike Scioscia said OF Reggie Willits (hamstring strain) and INF Maicer Izturis (mid-back strain) experienced no pain after returning to action in Monday's night game against the White Sox. ... Scioscia said he would announce his opening-day starter on Thursday. The late-spring rotation is lined up so that Jered Weaver would start the first game.
