Blue Jays GM Anthopoulos eager to make trades

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos is ready to make some trades...but other teams aren't.

With so much parity around baseball, teams are finding it hard to justify selling. Here's what Anthopoulos told Sportsnet regarding his eagerness to trade:

“A lot of clubs are saying ‘Look we’re not ready.' They want to give themselves as much time as they can. If you start trading guys at this point, attendance can be affected. Those are big decisions to make so they want to wait until the end of July. A lot of parity and that’s certainly going to slow things up. We don’t have anything close. We’re starting to talk a little bit more. The all-star break would be the earliest to get something done.”

The Blue Jays are one of four team within 2.5 games of first place in the American League East. Anthopoulos said that the team has the pieces to make a deal, but it comes down to if they're willing to part with prospects:

“We certainly have the players. The only thing that’s going to be holding us back from a deal is do we want to pay the price in terms of players. I have all the confidence in the world we have the players to get a deal done. It’s just a matter of how much it’s going to hurt. We realize we have to give up some of those guys and we’re prepared to do it. Ultimately it’s a matter of how deep you want to cut.”

The trade deadline is July 31 and it has the potential to be a wild one for Jays fans.
