Benches clear early in Giants-Dodgers game

LOS ANGELES (AP) Both benches and bullpens have emptied in a testy first inning at Dodger Stadium after San Francisco Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner hit Los Angeles star Yasiel Puig in the left foot with a pitch.

Plate umpire Adrian Johnson started walking toward the mound Tuesday night when Puig jumped up from a sitting position and quickly tailed after him, yelling at Bumgarner. The pitcher chucked his glove behind him and gestured with both hands as if to say, ''Bring it on.''

Players spilled onto the field, but no punches were thrown.

Johnson pushed Puig away, then teammate Matt Kemp got in front of Puig before Dodgers manager Don Mattingly restrained the Cuban outfielder.

Puig eventually went to first base and Kemp followed with a two-run homer that extended the Dodgers' lead to 3-0.

Puig also was plunked in the series opener Monday night, a 5-2 win by the Giants in 13 innings.
