Braves Marksberry Updates On Health
A week ago today, news broke that Atlanta Braves pitcher Matt Marksberry was in the hospital, but the severity of his condition was just trickling in. Later in the week we learn just how serious it was.
Matt was severely dehydrated and his sodium level was extremely low that he had a seizure.
It’s unbelievable how life changes in a flash and I’m sure Matt and his family are witnessing this firsthand over the past week.
The first we heard something big was happening was when Matt’s brother, Ethan, posted around 1:30pm last Wednesday on Facebook that his mom had called and said that Matt was on life support.

The news was slow to come in, but rumors were that he was extremely dehydrated, had a seizure, had a collapsed lung, and many other “rumors” folks were spreading.
Truth was that he was in the hospital, was dehydrated and did have a seizure….no collapsed lung though.
Bob Marksberry, Matt’s father, posted an update on Facebook where he explained that Matt was experiencing stomach issues earlier in the week and he took some medicine to flush him out. Three hours later, he was in the ER.

Marksberry, a left-handed relief pitcher, appeared in 31 games in 2015 with 23 1/3 innings pitched and a 5.01 ERA. In 2016, he spent most of the season with the Gwinnett Braves, but did appear in four games with the Atlanta Braves. The 26-year-old is very effective against left-handed hitters as in 2015 he held hitters to a .170/.267/.264 slash line with 14 strikeouts.
Today, he updated everyone on Twitter that he is doing better and thanked us for the continual prayers.

It’s great to hear that Marksberry is doing well now and can concentrate on getting his shoulder healthy. He’s been in Florida trying to recover from the shoulder injury so he can be back on the mound in 2017. On October 12, Atlanta removed him from the 40 man roster and will most likely start the season with the Mississippi Braves.
I’m a big Matt Marksberry fan for the Braves bullpen and I think he deserves a better shot to compete for a roster spot in 2017.
