Athletics' Norris out with lower back tightness

Published Jun. 27, 2014 9:22 p.m. ET

MIAMI (AP) Oakland Athletics catcher Derek Norris left Friday's game against Miami with lower back tightness but said he hopes to rejoin the lineup Sunday.

Norris moved awkwardly trying to stop a pitch in the dirt in the fourth inning. After consulting with a trainer, he left the game and was replaced by Stephen Vogt. Oakland won 9-5.

''It's a little tweak in the back,'' Norris said. ''I wouldn't expect anything more than about a day off or so.''

Norris said the injury was nowhere near as serious as a back problem that sidelined him in 2013.
