Astros ship righty Harrell and his 9.49 ERA to Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired right-hander Lucas Harrell from the Houston Astros for a player to be named.
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Monday that Harrell will join Triple-A Reno for now.
The 28-year-old Harrell went 0-3 with a 9.49 ERA in three starts with Houston this season. He was 6-17 with a 5.86 ERA last season.
Arizona could use some pitching help.
The Diamondbacks lost ace Patrick Corbin to Tommy John surgery before the season started and are off to the worst start in franchise history, though the starters have been solid the past four games.
Harrell was designated for assignment on April 16. The terrible start to the season stretched his losing streak to eight straight decisions, and he has not won a start since June 15. He led the American League last season with 17 losses.
He cleared waivers on April 22 and was sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Harrell, who has been both a starter and a reliever, is 18-33 with a 4.84 ERA in 88 career games with 62 starts.
