Astros' Castro has torn right meniscus

Published Mar. 3, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Houston Astros catcher Jason Castro has a torn meniscus in his right knee and will return to Houston.

The Astros announced the results of an MRI on Thursday. Castro was injured running out a ground ball Wednesday in a split-squad exhibition game in Lakeland, Fla.

Houston manager Brad Mills said he is optimistic Castro's injury is not extensive.

Castro became the Astros' regular catcher as a rookie last season, playing in 67 games just two years after being drafted in the first round out of Stanford.
