A's retain Freiman, outright him to Triple-A Nashville

Published Jul. 6, 2015 1:01 p.m. ET

A few days after designating him for assignment to facilitate another roster move, the Oakland Athletics announced on Sunday that first baseman Nate Freiman cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville (as reported by CSN Bay Area).

Freiman, the 6'8" slugger who has appeared in 116 games with the A's over the past two seasons, has had a rough go of things so far in 2015. Injuries have hampered his playing time in Nashville and affected his stats, as he's hit just .171 with eight RBI in 35 games with the Sounds.

He began the year on the DL with a strained lumbar muscle and was optioned to Nashville, where he's had a slow time getting going offensively.

As for those two seasons with the A's at the big league level, Freiman owns a .256/.309/.408 slash line with nine home runs and 39 RBIs.
