A's add Kurcz in minor-league trade with Braves

Published Jul. 8, 2015 12:12 p.m. ET

Earlier this week, the Oakland Athletics sent an international bonus slot worth $167,000 to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Triple-A right-hander Aaron Kurcz.

The 24-year-old Kurcz has spent this season with Atlanta's Triple-A affiliate, where he's posted a 3.27 ERA in 31 games.

According to CSN Bay Area, Kurcz was drafted in 2011 by the Chicago Cubs and wound up being traded to the Boston Red Sox in the complicated deal that brought general manager Theo Epstein to Chicago.

Kurcz also had Tommy John surgery in 2013, but that hasn't stopped him from pitching well in the minor leagues.

It's speculative at this point, but it's not hard to imagine Kurcz being an option for the A's should he pitch well in their system this season.
