Arizona's Hill loses double on umps's foul call
Aaron Hill had an apparent double wiped out when an umpire missed a fair-or-foul call Sunday in Arizona's playoff game against Milwaukee.
Hill hit a drive down the line in the first inning in Game 2 that left-field umpire James Hoye ruled foul.
Replays showed Hill's liner hit on the fair side of a yellow stripe on the wall. Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun played the carom and immediately threw the ball back to the infield.
Hill's drive traveled through the sunlight and back into the shadows at Miller Park. The Diamondbacks did not argue the call, but their dugout on the third base side does not have a view of the left field corner. Hoye is working his first playoff series.
Hill returned to the plate and singled on Zack Greinke's next pitch.
MLB is considering expanding the use of instant replay for next year to include fair-or-foul calls. Currently, it can only be used to look at potential home run balls.
