Angels plan to use Calhoun at cleanup for a while
Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia plugged Kole Calhoun behind Albert Pujols in his lineup Monday afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays, and while that might seem surprising, it's something that won't be going away anytime soon.
A few weeks back, Scioscia put Calhoun at the #4 spot when Pujols was dealing with a minor injury. This time around, he told Jeff Fletcher of the O.C. Register, "We’re going to ride this out."
The Angels need stability in the lineup, especially with anybody not named Pujols or Mike Trout having issues getting going so far in 2015.
Said Scioscia further: “As much as we’ve been waiting for some guys to get into their game to lengthen our lineup, which is important, I think it’s a move we need to make to try to get somebody behind Albert that’s swinging the bat better."
As for Calhoun, who has also seen time as the Angels' leadoff hitter, he's ready to step up and perform - but he acknowledged to Jeff Fletcher that "I can't put too much pressure on it. I just have to go out and play. It's not etched in stone."
