Pinkel offers retirement plans in Monday press conference

Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel offered an emotional press conference on Monday morning in Mizzou Arena.

With family, friends, and fellow coaches present, Pinkel openly spoke about his illness with follicular lymphoma. He also dove into his plans for life after football -- which included some light-hearted sentiments about the beach and golf.

Pinkel was asked about whether he'd rather die on a football field, or on a beach. According to Pinkel, "I'd rather die on a beach."

It's an interesting statement for a man who's been involved with the game since 1970. The fact he didn't opt for the 'football answer' truly does affirm his decision to retire.

While Pinkel apparently does enjoy sandy beaches and picturesque weather, he's got a love-hate relationship with the game of golf -- a sport he figures to take up in the future.

The head coach also plans on participating in some form of work once his time with the program is over. There's even a chance could work within the athletic department in some capacity.

It's clear Pinkel has a love for the university of Missouri, and his presence will surely be tangible within the Columbia community going forward.
