A new low for Miami created a new high for Clemson, as the Tigers ascended to the No. 3 spot in the latest AP Top 25 Poll after beating the Hurricanes 58-0 on Saturday. It’s highest ranking of the season.
The victory moved Clemson (7-0, 4-0), who was one of three ACC teams to improve their positioning, up three spots.
With its 45-43 quadruple overtime victory over Virginia, Duke (6-1, 3-0) moved up from No. 23 to No. 22 this weekend. Pitt (6-1, 4-0) slid into the vacant No. 23 spot, up to from No. 25, after it topped Syracuse on a last-second field goal, 23-20.
At 6-1 (3-0) North Carolina is the only one-loss Power Five team to not be ranked in the top 25, but won its sixth straight game of the year to move up to from No. 29 (17 votes) to No. 27 (46 votes).
Of course not every ACC team rose in the rankings. Florida State (6-1, 4-1) was this weekend’s biggest loser as it tumbled from No. 6 down to No. 17 after Georgia Tech blocked a last-second field goal attempt and returned for the game-winning touchdown.
Ohio State still remains the No. 1 team in the rankings with 1,466 points, and is followed by Baylor (1,417 points), Clemson (1,478 points) and LSU (1,344).
