Bittle scores 23, South Dakota St. beats Chadron St., 87-52

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) Jake Bittle made 4 of 6 3-pointers and scored 23 points Friday night to help South Dakota State beat Division II Chadron State 87-52 in the season opener for both teams.

Mike Daum had 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting with seven rebounds while Ian Theisen and Keaton Moffitt scored 10 points apiece for South Dakota State. Moffitt grabbed eight rebounds.

Bittle converted a 3-point play and made a layup to spark a 14-0 run by the Jackrabbits that pushed their lead to 23-6 with 9:29 left in the first half. A few minutes later Bittle hit three-straight 3s, the last of which made it 34-13. Chadron State never again threatened and trailed by as many as 35.

Sharif Black led the Eagles with 12 points.

Chadron State made 19 of 61 field goals, 7 of 19 3-point shots and 7 of 17 free throws.
