UEFA awards Italy 3-0 win over Serbia for violence

The Italian Football Federation says UEFA has awarded it a 3-0

win over Serbia after rioting fans forced their European

Championship qualifier to be abandoned.

UEFA also ordered Serbia to play one home qualifier behind

closed doors, which could be increased to two games if there is

more crowd trouble again over the next two years.

Italy will also be ordered to play a game in an empty stadium if

trouble is repeated.

The Italian federation was charged because its security

operation failed to stop Serbian fans entering the stadium in Genoa

with an arsenal of fireworks and flares.

Italy now leads qualifying Group C with 10 points from four

games. Serbia is fifth in the six-nation group with four

points.

Both federations were also fined.
