Adriano undergoes successful surgery in Brazil

Doctors say they have successfully fixed the ruptured left

Achilles’ tendon of Brazilian striker Adriano.

The former Inter Milan and Roma forward who recently joined

Corinthians was hurt during a light practice on Tuesday.

Corinthians doctor Joaquim Grava says Wednesday’s operation

lasted 30 minutes and Adriano will be sidelined for at least five

months.

Adriano signed for Corinthians in March and had been recovering

from a shoulder injury. He was expected to make his debut with the

Sao Paulo club in May at the start of the Brazilian league.

The 29-year-old striker played in the 2006 World Cup but missed

last year’s tournament in South Africa despite leading Flamengo to

the national title the year before.
