Daz not shocked by Ash interest

Young came off the bench to score the equaliser in Saturday’s 2-2

draw with Switzerland in a Euro 2012 qualifier at Wembley. The

winger is hotly tipped to make the move to Old Trafford this summer

although he is due to meet Villa chairman Randy Lerner this week to

discuss his future. Bent said: “When he didn’t start (against

Switzerland) a lot of people thought it was a bit strange but Ash

came on and was magnificent. “He has shown people why clubs like

Manchester United are after him and he is a top, top player. “He

has played the last four internationals and got three man of the

matches so he is on fire at the moment. “That’s why teams like

United want him. “I have always said the best player I have played

with club-wise was Luka Modric at Tottenham but Ash can’t be too

far behind now, if not on a par with him.” Bent believes it is

unlilely that Villa can prevent Young from moving to the Champions

League runners-up. He said: “I am still trying little bits and bobs

here and there to make him stay but at the end of the day he a top,

top player and a top professional. “If he wants to go and play for

the second-best club side in the world, who is going to stop him?

Bent squandered two gilt-edged chances to seal victory for England

after netting in the previous three internationals. He said:

“Unfortunately it was one of those days. But I won’t think about

it. I’ll just get on with it and look forward to next season. “I

think it’s probably a sign of me developing into a top player. As

strikers you’re always going to miss chances. “Before, if I missed

a chance I couldn’t sleep for a week until the next game came. “But

now I put it to one side, it’s the end of the season and the next

time a chance comes, I’ll bury it.”
