Big Sam: Basturk can still shine

Basturk arrived at Ewood Park from German side Stuttgart on a

short-term deal in January but with only four games remaining this

season, he is still yet to feature for Rovers. It has been a

frustrating time for the 31-year-old midfielder, who has 49 caps

for Turkey and helped Bayer Leverkusen reach the 2002 Champions

League final. Blackburn have secured their top-flight status in

recent weeks though, and with the pressure now off his team,

Allardyce has confirmed Basturk could get his chance to shine. “He

played for the reserves last week and he is fit and well again

after a niggling injury,” Allardyce told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“It is very difficult to put him into my team based on the fact of

the strength and depth of the squad I have available now. Before

the end of the season I do expect to give him a run out somewhere

to see if he can show us the sort of qualities we know he has had

during his career in Germany.”
