Bardsley buzzing to be back

The Scotland international full-back won the Black Cats’ player of

the year award last season but only returned to action recently

after his lengthy four-match ban for violent conduct against

Chelsea. Bardsley came off the bench for Sunderland in the crucial

win over Bolton and again during the home draw with Aston Villa. He

appeared at full-back in Scotland’s 2-1 friendly victory in Cyprus

and said: “The suspensions came at a difficult time. “I was taking

last season’s form into this one and unfortunately for me, a

decision in a game has resulted in me having five weeks out. “But

I’ve come back and I’ve played 60 mins against Aston Villa and then

I played against Manchester United so it’s nice to be back in the

fold. I’m enjoying it and hopefully I can get a few more games

under my belt.”
