He had been getting steady at-bats earlier this month, but that's no longer the case since Gabriel Moreno was activated off the injured list a week ago. Impact One day after being removed from a game due to a head injury, Herrera returned to the lineup. According to Lovullo, the catcher lobbied to remain in the game, and that his removal was strictly for precautionary reasons.

With Kelly returning from the 60-day injured list Monday and ready to handle duties as Moreno's top understudy, the Diamondbacks didn't have room on the active roster for Herrera as a third catcher.
