Nigel James, Ben Gold rally Marquette to 105-104 victory over Providence in OT

Freshman Nigel James Jr. scored a season-high 38 points and Ben Gold made the first of two free throws with four seconds left in overtime as Marquette edged Providence 105-104

Limited output in return Gold (ankle) ended Friday's 80-75 loss to DePaul with six points (2-4 FG, 2-4 3Pt) and two assists over 15 minutes.

Impact Gold sat out the Golden Eagles' loss to St. John's on Jan. 13, but returned to action in Marquette's loss to DePaul on Friday night. The senior forward played just 15 minutes and notched a meager six points. Gold, who averages 8.3 points and 6.4 rebounds this season, has come off the bench for Marquette in five of the last seven games in which he's played.

Warming up Friday night Gold (ankle) is warming up ahead of Marquette's clash with DePaul on Friday night, per Ben Steele of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Impact Gold was listed officially as questionable, but he appears to be giving it a go for the Golden Eagles ahead of a Friday night showdown in Chicago. The forward missed the Jan. 13 loss to St. John's, but is giving it a go less than an hour before tip.

Impact Gold will miss his first game of the season when the Golden Eagles visit the Johnnies on Tuesday. The big man had just re-inserted himself back into Marquette's starting five, but now he'll be forced to sit out. Gold is in the midst of a career year, averaging 8.3 points and 6.4 rebounds.

Impact Gold earned back his starting spot the previous Wednesday against Xavier, producing 10 points and seven boards in the victory. Things took a turn for the worse Saturday, however, as he saw a season low minutes total despite foul trouble not being any sort of issue. Marquette instead went with either a smaller lineup or rotating cast of big men while playing Villanova surprisingly close, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Gold's minutes once again at risk.

Grabs 11 boards Sunday Gold totaled four points (2-9 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 0-1 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 31 minutes during Sunday's 73-57 loss to UConn.

Impact Gold came off the bench in his fourth straight game Sunday but he still was able to make an impact with a season-high 11 rebounds. He only scored four points on a disappointing 2-9 from the field though, so it was not an entirely productive performance. With Caedin Hamilton's minutes decreasing, Gold could soon make his way back into the starting five, although it wouldn't make much of a difference considering he's still playing starter-level minutes despite coming off the bench.

Impact Gold has started every game this season for the Golden Eagles and leads the squad in rebounding at 7.9 rpg. It's been a struggle offensively, however, as Gold has now been held to single digits in three consecutive games. His shooting percentages -- 37.7 FG, 31.0 3Pt, 60.0 FT -- are career-lows across the board in his fourth year with the program and second as a full-time starter.
