UFC signs last man to beat Conor McGregor, Joseph Duffy
In just over a week, rising UFC star Conor McGregor will headline UFC Fight Night against Dennis Siver in a bout that could get the brash Irishman a title shot against Jose Aldo, next. This past week, the UFC also signed the lat man to have defeated McGregor, Joseph Duffy.
Duffy, a lightweight, submitted McGregor in a 2010 bout, and also owns a submission victory over UFC lightweight Norman Parke. In all, the 26 year-old Duffy, also a native of Ireland, is 12-1, with his lone loss coming in 2011.
"Irish Joe" didn’t fight in 2012, or 2013, but went undefeated in 2014, winning two fights by stoppage. The Score’s report says that Duffy signed a multi-fight deal that is supposedly "understood to be extremely lucrative in comparison to standard entry-level UFC contracts."
Duffy’s last contact with the UFC was when he was selected for season twelve of The Ultimate Fighter, but lost in his bout to fight his way into the TUF house. Duffy will come over from the top European MMA promotion, Cage Warriors, and is reportedly expected to make his UFC debut in March or April.
