Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom has reportedly decided to hang up his skates after 20 years in the NHL, mlive.com reported Wednesday.
The Red Wings have called an 11 a.m. ET press conference for Thursday, where the 42-year-old is expected to make the official announcement.
Lidstrom has played all 20 seasons of his NHL career in Detroit, winning four Stanley Cups and earning Conn Smythe honors in 2002 as the Stanley Cup Playoffs' most valuable player.
The Red Wings selected Lidstrom in the third round of the 1989 draft. He went on to become a seven-time Norris Trophy winner as the league's top defensive player.
The 12-time NHL All-Star also won an Olympic gold medal as a member of his native Sweden's team in the 2006 Games in Turin, Italy.
