The Detroit Red Wings beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 Monday afternoon at TD Garden, which is probably news to the majority of the country (myself included) that had no idea there was a Columbus Day matinee even going on.
If you happened to overlook the tilt and not the schedule, you missed goaltender Jonas Gustavsson's first game action of the year for Detroit and Milan Lucic's 100th career goal. But mostly you missed Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi going skates-over-helmet and face-first into the goalpost and ice after slamming into Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask.

We saw how dangerous ice can be this year with the early-season concussion suffered by George Parros, so considering the potential for serious injury when face and ice collide, Bertuzzi escaped mostly unscathed.
But given Bertuzzi's appalling history of inflicting serious ice-related injury upon others, it’s unlikely he’d have been able to drum up much sympathy had he done the same to himself.
