Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:33 a.m. ET

Mike Comrie and Hilary Duff have decided to separate after three years of marriage.

The 33-year-old former NHL player, who retired in 2012 due to a hip injury, and 26-year-old actress made the announcement Jan. 10 and told E! News it was a mutual decision.

Duff took to Twitter soon after to thank those who have supported the couple through their difficult time.

"They remain best friends and will continue to be in each others lives," Duff's representative said in a statement. "They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time."

The couple seems to really be on good terms as Duff recently posted a photo of them at Disneyland with their son, Luca, who turns 2 in March.

Comrie played with the Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins during his 13-year career.
