Todd Bowles wants players to be smarter on social media

Published Jun. 11, 2015 4:59 p.m. ET

Todd Bowles isn't too happy about some of his players' activities on social media recently. On the heels of a fight on twitter between cornerback Antonio Cromartie and former Jets tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., Bowles has a message not only for Cromartie, but all his players. Specifically, he wants them to really think about what they are about to post before they do it.

“I don’t want them to be robots,” Bowles said after the team’s final minicamp practice Thursday. “They’ve just got to be smart about it. There’s a fine line between hurting the team and hurting yourself. Then, talking on social media, you’ve got to be smart about it.”

Jets fans knew there would be a stark change in the atmosphere in New York once Bowles took over for Rex Ryan. While Ryan is outspoken, Bowles prefers to keep his mouth quiet and he wants his players to do the same.

“Obviously, we don’t want to have a whole team that gossips and hasn’t done anything,” Bowles said. “I’d rather for us to just work on getting better as a team as opposed to just talking on social media."

Let's see if the players get the hint and start to get a little smarter on social media.
