Steelers News: Lawrence Timmons, Antonio Brown, Mike Tomlin

The Steelers head into their bye week coming off of two losses with an injury list about a mile long.

While the team recovers from their injuries and gets some much-needed rest we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Sunday, Oct. 30th.

Quiet leader

Some things are going to need to be tightened up on the defense if a legit run at the Super Bowl is a reality for Pittsburgh in the second half of the season. Teresa Varley got inside linebackers coach Jerry Olsavsky’s opinion on how consistency is the key to a strong defense.

While coach Jerry O has two talkative guys on the field in Ryan Shazier and Vince Williams the quiet leader of the bunch is Lawrence Timmons. Timmons can be found making tackles or puking all over the field.

“Lawrence tis amazingly consistent. He always brings a lot of power. Guys like playing with him. He does fly under the radar. He is not a loud guy. He does a good job of what he does, which is make tackles and hit people.” – Jerry Olsavsky

He also vomits on the field quite consistently. He must be a super awesome teammate if guys still like playing with him in spite of the constant threat of stepping in his puke on the field.

No more drama

The PPG’s Ray Fittipaldo got all “get off my lawn” on Antonio Brown in his latest column. He’s calling for a cease to the drama that Brown has been bringing to the field so far this season. It started with his twerking in the end zone in Washington and continued with colorful cleats.

Now, no one likes any hateration in their dancerie but I don’t think you can point to Brown as being some kind of distraction because of his cleats and touchdown celebrations. The old guys writing columns talking about how that’s not how it was done back in the day make it more of an issue than it needs to be.

If we’re talking about Antonio Brown twerking in the end zone, then we’re talking about touchdowns being scored. That’ s a good thing. Let’s have more of that.

Bye splits

The Trib calculated Mike Tomlin’s record for post bye week winning percentages and it wasn’t all that different than his pre-bye. The big difference, they found, was over the last four seasons the team is 24-15 in post-bye games.

That’s better than their 14-14 record in the previous years under Tomlin. So it seems that the stats show that Tomlin is trending towards being more successful after the bye week, which is good news. I like that.
