Pees won't return as Pats' defensive coordinator
Dean Pees is leaving after four seasons as the New England Patriots
defensive coordinator.
Pees said Thursday that he's told team owner Robert Kraft and
coach Bill Belichick that he won't seek to renew his contract when
it expires at the end of January.
In a statement issued by the club, Pees said he enjoyed his
time in New England but feels this is the right time to pursue
other opportunities.
The 60-year-old Pees left the Patriots' final regular season
game in the second half at Houston after suffering shortness of
breath. He was hospitalized and flew back to New England the next
day. His statement did not mention his health.
The Patriots gave up the fifth fewest points in the NFL this
season but were eliminated by the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs.
