New York Jets waive former first round pick Dee Milliner
On Saturday, it was learned the New York Jets will waive cornerback Dee Milliner after they were rebuffed in trade attempts.
With the 2016 NFL season about a week away, the New York Jets are expected to waive cornerback Dee Milliner. Milliner was a former No. 9 draft pick in 2013, but he’s been injured often. That led to the team attempting to trade him away this preseason.
Milliner was on the field for the Jets’ first three preseason games. However, a sore hamstring limited him and he was determined not healthy enough to participate in this past Thursday’s final preseason game.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the Jets are expected to waive the former Alabama standout who has been plagued by injuries and poor play with the Jets.

When the Jets waive Milliner, it moves rookie Juston Burris to his spot on the depth chart.Buster Skrine, who has been in the league since 2011, is the top choice above both players. As mentioned, the Jets haven’t had luck in shopping Milliner which has led to the decision to waive him.
However, it also will end up being somewhat of a bad business deal. Milliner was on a four-year guaranteed rookie contract. Milliner was expected to earn a total of $12.661 million by the end of this season for the contract.
That leaves the door open for other teams to possibly grab Milliner as a cornerback, should they want to gamble. Twitter users have already been tweeting about their favorite teams picking him up now that he’s being waived.
The Jets will open the 2016 NFL season hosting the Cincinnati Bengals at East Rutherford, New Jersey. Last season, the Jets finished at 10-6 and second to the New England Patriots in the NFC East. The Milliner move won’t have a lot of bearing on their success this season, other than costing them several millions of dollars.
