The New York Jets have released outside linebacker Quinton Coples, who was a 2012 first-round pick.

The Jets took Coples No. 16 overall out of North Carolina in the 2012 draft. After starting 28 games in 2013 and 2014, Coples has just two starts for the Jets this season, recording eight tackles in 10 games.

In his first three seasons in the league, Coples recorded 16.5 sacks -- including a career-high 6.5 last season -- but has none this season.

Third-round pick Rookie Lorenzo Mauldin, who has two sacks, has played well. Calvin Pace and Mauldin have combined to replace him over the past few weeks, with Coples getting just five snaps against the Houston Texans in Week 11.
