DeSean Jackson wears cleats to 'start dialogue about' violence

Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson took the field before Sunday’s game against the Browns wearing cleats stylized with police caution tape. 

Jackson released a statement saying he hopes to “be part of a solution and start dialogue about the senseless killings of both citizens and police.” The gesture isn’t meant to be a protest against law enforcement, he added. 

“We stand in support of both DeSean and the law enforcement community,” the team said in a statement.

Jackson was one of four Washington players to raise their fists during the national anthem before last week’s game against the Giants. 

Several NFL players have made statements about social justice issues with their pregame attire this season, including Cam Newton, who wore a shirt last week featuring a quote from Martin Luther King Jr
