Tony Parker plans to avoid injuries by changing preseason preparation
Tony Parker battled several significant injuries during the 2014-15 season, including a few that bothered him up until the day San Antonio was eliminated by the Los Angeles Clippers.
The injuries took a toll, and Parker struggled to find any consistency or rhythm throughout the year. He posted some of the worst per game averages we've seen since he was a rookie. But the Spurs starting point guard believes he can prevent physical ailments from getting in the way next year.
Here's a rough translation of what he recently told FranceTVSport:
"I will change my preparation. Last year, I cut two months after the NBA title. This summer I'm going to do differently. From June 1, I will start to get back in shape, to do much strength training to prevent these injuries. I'm getting older and my body does not respond as quickly as when I was younger."
This is definitely an interesting development. Parker is already 33, which is pretty old for an above average guard in the NBA. Is more work in the offseason good for his body or worse? Time will tell.
Either way, the Spurs absolutely need Parker to be at his best, and healthy, next season. No matter who else is on the team.
