Timberwolves Notes: SLAM magazine cover, Kevin Garnett update

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

SLAM magazine has released a throwback cover that will make Timberwolves fans bask in nostalgia, plus Kevin Garnett is still a big question mark for this fall.

SLAM has toyed with Timberwolves fans’ hearts in the past, recreating the iconic Kevin Garnett-Stephon Marbury magazine cover with Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio.

In 2016, however, they’ve chosen an apparently safer route to combine the Wolves and those nostalgic feelings. That’s right — they’re rolling with (who else?) Garnett again, but this time the comparison is with one Karl-Anthony Towns.

Couldn’t be better, could it? And yes, that is a Garnett throwback, not a Towns version of the old uniforms. (Interesting that they chose the blue jersey and not black…)

SLAM also has an alternate cover with just Towns, in a Wolves home uniform that can be found here, along with the full version of the above cover.

The linked article begins with these exhilarating quotes from Towns and the below mixtape starring both KG and KAT.

“Every time I’m with KG, it feels like, in my opinion, like I’m looking at myself in a mirror.”

“I’ve always said that I want to leave the game on my own terms, finish as the best player that’s ever lived, and do it my own way—never a version two of someone else, but the first version of myself.”

Awesome work by SLAM. If you’re able to land a copy of this issue, please do so. It should be a keeper.

Lastly, Steve Aschburner of NBA.com noted that Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau told the website that Garnett’s discussions regarding playing this season remain solely with owner Glen Taylor.

Late last week, Taylor stated that he still had no idea what Garnett was going to do. Of course, we’re now within three weeks of training camp, so someone’s going to have to figure it out sooner or later.

And three weeks within training camp means that it’s nearly time to ramp up player and team previews, plus the fall resurrection of the No Frills Wolves Podcast.

Keep it here at DWW, folks.
