Sacramento Kings' Magical Night Sullied By The San Antonio Spurs

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The wait was long but certainly worth it for Sacramento Kings fans as the purple and white hosted the San Antonio Spurs in Sacramento’s brand new Golden 1 Center.

Unfortunately, the night wasn’t perfect as the Kings fell to the Spurs by a score of 102-94. The Kings’ record now is 1-1 for the season.

The Kings, similar to last night’s win, started the game off hot by leading their opponent 29-27 after the first quarter. The game remained tight throughout the rest of the game, but the Spurs did have a mini-run at the end of the third which gained them momentum.

Sacramento continued to fight hard in the fourth quarter, but the Spurs were able to sustain any type of rally and shut the door closed for the home team, granting the Kings their first loss of the season.

Overall, an “L” will show up in the standings for the Kings tonight, but it was refreshing to see Sacramento playing hard on BOTH ends of the floor for the majority of the game.

Notable performances from the Kings tonight were DeMarcus Cousins who recorded 37 points and 16 rebounds, Rudy Gay who scored 17 points, and Ty Lawson who scored 7 points and dished out 9 assists.

The next game for Sacramento will be on Saturday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
