Roy Hibbert criticized for San Bernardino shooting tweet

The tragedy that took place in San Bernardino, Calif., on Wednesday was an unfriendly reminder that sports can be utterly meaningless in the grand scheme of things. If Los Angeles Lakers center Roy Hibbert was trying to articulate that, some would say he failed.

In a tweet trying to express sympathy for those who were affected by the shooting that left 14 people dead and several others wounded, Hibbert also decided to mention how the Lakers keep losing.

To many, it didn't touch the proper note.

We get the point Hibbert was trying to make, but it wasn't ideal to mention the Lakers or basketball in the same sentence as what happened in San Bernardino. Sometimes athletes are better off saying nothing — like the time Chipper Jones angered some with a Sandy Hook tweet — rather than failing to articulate their thoughts to an audience of several hundred thousand people.
