Report: Lakers decline Jordan Hill's contract option

As the Los Angeles Lakers embark on a whirlwind free agency and trade season, there's already been one member of the team to fall by the wayside.
The Lakers held a team option on the contract of big man Jordan Hill for next season, and Eric Pincus of the LA Times reports that the team has declined that option. The team still retains Hill's rights, but doing so requires an eight-figure cap hold; if Los Angeles is able to lure a free agent to southern California, the team will likely need to renounce its rights to Hill in order to clear up space.
If, however, the Lakers come up empty in free agency, they would be able to bring Hill back next season at a reduced salary -- assuming he's not able to find a better payday elsewhere in the league.
